flight of fancy

Good morning everyone. Teresa here, actually not, I am at the beach, enjoying a little sand and salt water. I am however enjoying the advice of today's project.

A little airship advising to "Dream a little dream"

So let's get started. This one takes a little longer, but it is a lot of fun.

Note, the links to the supplies are at the bottom of this post.

Unpack and carefully punch out the components of the airship. (there is also an accessory package available) I also used a few of the "waste" parts from other kits as extra embellishments.

Using a piece of clear acetate and a stamp of your choice, stamp and emboss an encouraging quote. I used the Embossing Adhesive and Micro Gold Embossing Powder. I allowed the static of the acetate to "keep" the fine dusting of the powder without the adhesive. By heating from the backside of the acetate, this left a faint dusting of the gold looking like a scattering of fairy dust.

Now lay the center of the airship over the stamped image. Mark this and trim to fit.

Now, using a paintbrush, carefully paint the Embossing Adhesive on the gears and emboss, them one at a time, using assorted Steampunk style colors of enamel. I used Copper Kettle and Vintage Black on these. Emboss both sides.

Emboss the remainder of the center piece of the Airship with  Starry Sky Enamel. This is a great space color. Dark blues, blacks gold's, and silver tones.

Go ahead click that next photo for a close up of the enamels.

Now the trim rings. I used Siam Silver for the base layer and since these are glued down, I only did one side. Then using my favorite and most versatile tool, my finger, I smeared the adhesive around the rings and sprinkled with Micro Black. I smeared off the excess and then embossed this, leaving a splotched, textured finish.

For the embellishments, I used the smallest stars from the Star Charms kit, along with those "spare" bits that I keep. I coated these with the Metallic Gold 3D Enamel Gel and sprinkled them with glitter. The gel acts as an adhesive for the glitter.

Glue the stamped acetate behind the center piece. Add the stars to the acetate front using Matte Glastique.

I did not want to be able to see through the ship, so I took the Metallic Gold 3D Enamel Gel and, again using my finger, smeared it all over the back of the acetate piece.

Glue all the layers together using the Glastique. And for a tiny bit of sparkle accent, I rubbed the plastic globes on some yarn, creating static and sprinkled with the glitter, then shook these off. This left just a dusting of the glitter and created a very dreamy effect.

Stack the layers, clamp and let dry overnight. Add the Embellishments to the nose and tail of the ship. let dry and it is ready to add a hanger and display.

Steampunk Mixed Media

Sandy here with you today with my second try at a mixed media canvas.  I began with the wonderful Mini Steampunk Airship Kit.  Using Vintage Black, Vintage Copper and Vintage Gold Piccolo Enamel, I heat embossed the various pieces of the ship.  I only wanted to use 1/2 of the airship for my project as I wanted one side to be flat for adhering to my canvas.  I added a couple of extra gears for more dimension inside the globe.  And I added a Steampunk Airship Accent to the nose of my ship.  I set that aside.

Next I went to work on my 9 x 12 inch canvas.  I used a huge amount of Piccolo's on this canvas.  It was great fun to mix them up and layer them.  I am not sure I can list them all but will try at the end of this post.  I started with the two bubble backgrounds.  I added three mesh borders from Cheery Lynn Designs and then just filled in all the other spots.  The bottle cap, flowers and clothespin are the only other items that are not Piccolos.

I used my Copic airbrush to add color.  I did not have any shimmer paints in the colors I wanted.  I did add some shimmer mist over the background when I was done coloring to add a bit of sparkle.  The last step was to add my Airship and I found out that I had not chosen wisely with my embossing powders.  But I took my Copic marker that I used to airbrush the copper color and colored over the embossing powder on the frame of the ship so it now matches.

This steampunk airship is smokin' hot

Hello crafters! Chrissy here with some steampunk fun using G&P embossing powders and the G&P Classic Airship.

Here's the breakdown on how I put together my airship and the product I used.
  • Embossing Powder Adhesive
  • Piccolo Embossing Powders: Vintage Black, Copper Kettle & Gilded Rose
  • Steampunk Airship Kit
  • Glastique Finishing Glaze
  • Vintage Gears Set
  • Floral Whimsy Accents
  • Halloween Graveyard Haunting Accents

Every piece of this project has been heat embossed using Piccolo embossing powders and then glued together using Glastique. You will have to excuse the nature of this tutorial. Once I got into my groove, I forgot to take the pictures! Doh!

First, I embossed all of my little pieces.

While those were cooling off, I embossed the rest of my pieces and starting putting the main elements together.

Tip: Use a fine-tip paint brush to apply Piccolo Embossing Powder Adhesive onto the tinier pieces.

Start building and layering your elements. I used foam adhesive so that there was added dimension.

I like adding other Piccolo pieces for visual interest and to make my airship more unique. You may recognize the gears from my last post. Told you I had a project in mind for them!

I also used a small flourish as the 'smoke' and cut another flourish in half for the decoration on the hull of the ship, both from the Floral Whimsy Accents set. See that spiky 'Mohawk' on my ship? That is the fence from the Halloween Graveyard Haunting Piccolo Accents set!

And there you have it! You can use any G&P colors of embossing powders you like or you could even use paper, which will probably be my next idea.

For another steampunk tutorial, head over to The Twisted Muse and see how I made a piece of jewelry!  Thanks for taking a look!

Christmas Airship Express

Every year I try to find a new ornament to place on our Christmas tree and add to our collection. I love finding different and vintage style ornaments, and if it is handcrafted all the better! Which brings me to the Globecraft and Piccolo Airship kit. I know many of you don't think of airships when Christmas comes to mind but I thought why not have a special airship just for Santa!

Piccolo Easy Grip Tweezers

Art Glitter Institute Micro fine Arctic Glitter
Black ink stamp pad
Christmas saying stamp
Red and Clear crystals stickers
Fishing line
Cotton Swabs
Cosmetic Sponge
Mini Adhesive Foam squares

Carefully I removed the Airship and all of the accents from their backing. I started coating the boat portion and fin of the airship with
3D Enamel Burnt Umber. Let dry and then coated the reverse sides.

I applied
3D Enamel Gel Leafy Green to the mini tree and 3D Enamel Napthol Red to the bows. The reindeer got coated with the 3D Enamel Yellow Ochre and then the antlers and hooves with 3D Enamel Mars Black.

Carefully I coated four flourishes with
3D Enamel Gel Leafy Green and four with 3D Enamel Napthol Red, one flourish with 3D Enamel Titanium White. All of these elements will be used later to decorate the airship. You might have noticed I did not use all of the flourishes that came in the packs for this project. Any Piccolos I don't use right away get saved for other projects. :)

I used a Christmas stamp on cream colored paper and cut it out in the shape of a banner. Using a cosmetic sponge I applied 3D Enamel Yellow Ochre around the edges back and front of the banner and let it dry.

Using the handle of a paint brush I curled the banner to give it the effect of movement.

I then coated the front and back of the banner with Glastique Matte Finishing Glaze and let dry.

I applied
Embossing Powder Adhesive to the airship outer rings, the engine base and a few of the gears. Then I coated them with 24K Gold Enamel Powder and heat to set. I also applied the same enamel powder to the other side of the engine. Embossing Powder Adhesive was then applied to the engine and the last remaining gears. On went a coat of Copper Kettle Enamel Powder and heat set. I repeated this for the other side of the engine.

Using
Mini Adhesive Foam squares I attached the outer boat and engine elements to both sides of the airship.

A thin coat of
Glastique Gloss Finishing Glaze was then applied to the engine compartment on both sides and small sticker gems were added to the gears.

A thin bead of Glastique Glaze was then applied to the inside of both outer rings of the airship. The globes were placed onto of this bead and clipped into place to dry. Once dry, the outer rings were attached to the inner engine plate with a thin bead of Glastique and clipped into place until dry.

The now-dry flourishes and sticker gems were attached to both sides of the airship with
Glastique Glaze.

I applied
Glastique Gloss Glaze on the right side and edges to the airship and sprinkled Micro fine Arctic Glitter on top. Once dry I attached the banner onto the airship with fishing line and added a loop on top to hang it on the tree.
