Globecraft Snowflake Ornament Revised

When I got up this morning, I decided that my Snowflake Ornament I posted earlier today really needed something else.  Adding the newly released Tiny Flourishes Accents inked with Silver 3D Stamp Paint were just the right touch.  Here is a tip: Ink up the Flourishes before removing them from the bookboard.  Then you aren't chasing them all over the place.  Be sure to click on the pic above and go to the larger version.  You can see all the amazing flecks of color and glitter in the Turquoise Lagoon Enamel.  I like the flourish version much better, gives it a vintage feel.

Globecraft Snowflake Ornament

So the team has shown you lots of fabulous projects with our Piccolo bookboard pieces but what about the Globecraft products.  Well, they contain clear bubble half globes that have pre-cut pieces that fit in them or blanks for you to fill as you wish.  For today I have created a Snowflake Ornament, suitable for hanging in a window or on your holiday tree.  We had horrible weather in mid-Michigan today, so I was not able to get an outdoor picture to cut down on the glare. 

This set comes with 5 pieces: the center frame that has the snowflake attached, 2 outer frames and 2 clear bubbles.  The picture above shows you the parts of a blank ornament (no snowflake on this one)

I started by applying Light Blue 3D Stamp Paint on both sides and the edges of the piece with the snowflake as well as the edges of the two frame pieces.  I used a soft foam dauber and it gave the paint a lovely texture.  Then I heat embossed the two frame pieces with Turquoise Lagoon Enamel powder. 

Using a paint brush, I applied Enamel Powder Adhesive just to the snowflake portion of the center frame and embossed with Siam Silver Enamel.  Do this on both sides of the snowflake.  Next I glued a globe to one of the embossed frames and then glued that down on the Snowflake center piece.  It really helps to use clips around the edge to be sure this seals completely.  Once it was dry, I added some snow inside the globe and then finished the assembly; second globe glued to embossed frame, then glued down on the snowflake center piece.  Clipped together until dry.

Snowflake Votive Holder

I have wanted to do a 3D project since I got my Silhouette CAMEO and I thought this was a perfect opportunity.  I also get to showcase one of my absolute favorite accents sets from Globecraft & Piccolo - Bejeweled Snowflakes!

This post is a little photo heavy but I really wanted to showcase how I made the project and how beautiful the snowflakes & embossing enamel are together.

Globecraft & Piccolo Items Used:

1 set of Bejeweled Snowflakes Accents, LA100 

Enamel & Embossing Powder Adhesive Fluid 

Embossing Enamel in Aged White 

3D Enamel Gel in Satin Gold

Other Items:

1 piece heavy cardstock, 12 x 12, white

1 piece heavy cardstock, approx 7 x 7, white (for top)

2 pieces of Denami Design Colored Cardstock in Iridescent Gold

4 pieces of regular Vellum, 2 ½” x 2 ½”

Krylon Gold Leafing Pen

Double Stick Tape

Glue

5 Gold Beads

Cutfile for a 4” x 4” box, with top (I put the 1 ¾” x 1 ¾” windows on myself)

1 Battery Operated Votive**

**DO NOT USE A Candle – it will burn & cause a fire!

First thing I did was search for a lantern/votive holder cutfile that was fairly small knowing I wanted to use the Large Snowflakes in the Bejeweled Snowflakes Accents set as the focal point, but I couldn’t find any that suited my vision, so I made my own!  I used a regular cutfile of a small box with a lid and just added the windows to it.  Sounds easy but I am new at playing with files and it actually took me longer to get the right sized windows, and many, many votive holders cut, before I hit upon the right size.  Once I had the votive holder body and top cut out the real fun began.

Coloring the Snowflake Strips

I started by coloring the snowflake strips (after I cut them in two, 5 snowflakes each strip) with the Krylon Gold Leafing Pen.  After they dried, I dotted them with the 3D Enamel Gel in Satin Gold in the center of each snowflake.

Then I turned my attention to the 4 large Snowflakes.  I coated them with the Enamel & EmbossingPowder Adhesive Fluid (IMPORTANT!! Do NOT Squeeze The Fluid – this will cause the top to pop off and you will create an amazing mess! All you need is to tap the fluid onto whatever you wish to emboss, the little dauber thing will refill naturally – and I am PROUD to say I haven’t popped my top!) and embossed them using Aged White Embossing Enamel (don’t forget to roll your enamel before you use it – that will ensure the colors are mixed properly). NOTE: Since the Snowflakes are very detailed the embossing enamel may clog some of the holes – just use a toothpick and poke it out!

This color is fantastic! It has little bits of metallic goodness mixed in with the white powder and it really sparkles! I put the Large Snowflakes aside to cool.

I then cut my vellum and attached it to the inside of the windows in the box.  Since vellum is tricky to use glue with I used double stick tape, just the regular red kind.  It’s very important that nothing gets on the vellum because you will see it when the holder is lit (and I am sure if I tried to use glue I would get it on the vellum.  In fact, I even washed my hands and used a clean piece of scrap paper to ensure the vellum would stay clean).

Then I attached the Large Snowflakes to the outside of the windows.  I lined them up so they would be the same no matter what window was looked at.

The next step was to figure out what I wanted to add to the sides of the box, around the windows, because it looked very plain to me.  I used another cutfile to make frames out of thin (lightweight) metallic paper. Once I had the four frames cut I glued them to the sides using them to frame the snowflakes.  Be sure to keep one of the insides of the frame you use!

I assembled the top and gathered my colored & dotted Snowflake Strips.  I put one strip on each side of the top and used one of the innies from the frame cutfile on the very top.

I also used one of the gold beads to serve as a handle so you can open the holder without having to touch the top.  The bead I used had a hole in the center, which will be fine for the feet, but I didn’t like the look of it on the top since you could see the hole.  I solved this issue by putting a few drops of the 3D Enamel Gel in Satin Gold, letting it dry, then adding more.  I did this about four times to “fill” in the hole.

The final step is to assemble to actual box.  I used glue and hinge clips to hold the sides together and I put 2 sides together at a time. The same steps I used to put together the top.

**REMEMBER – DO NOT USE a candle in your creation – it WILL cause a fire.  Use a battery operated votive!

I put my battery operated votive in the holder and lit it up.  I think this came out amazingly well for my first 3D project and makes a lovely winter centerpiece or decoration.

This reminds me of the paper bag luminaries that people would put out on their walkways and such back in the day.  I know people still use them, but I think the old ones were so beautiful!

Butterfly ATC

Hello there crafty peeps!

Today I have for you a cute little ATC (Artist Trading Card).

I'm super happy with the way this turned out. I hope you like it, too!

Supplies:

Piccolos: Daisy Floral Accents & Frame , Butterfly Charm Set

Enamel gels: Silver  and Copper

Glastique (glossy)

Enamel Powder Adhesive Fluid

Enamel Powders: Aged White, Turquoise Lagoon, Vintage Black, Gilded Rose Gold

Mod Podge

Old book page

Bling (black and amber, or whatever colors you like)

Heavy duty glue (I used Beacon 527 glue)

Small piece of foam tape or pop dots

Metal number

Scrap of burlap

Heat gun

Scissors

Little cup, toothpick, pantbrush

What to do:

1. Take two of the small butterflies and cut the loops off of them.

2. Get the frame from the Daisy Floral set. Open up the Copper & Silver Enamel Gels and slap some onto the frame. Blend together using a paint brush. Set aside to dry.




3. Now get out your enamel powders and a little cup. Add a little bit of each powder to the cup and mix well (I used a tooth pick). See, you just made your very own awesome mixture! Coat the little butterflies in the enamel adhesive (DO NOT SQUEESE THE CHARMIN....oops, I mean the bottle). Coat your butterflies in the enamel powder mixture you just created and heat those bad boys up with your heat gun to melt the powders and activate the adhesive! *if your butterflies little holes become plugged, flip them over and poke through the holes with a toothpick).


4. Use the Mod Podge to glue the old book paper to the back of the burlap. Let it dry and then use your heavy duty glue to glue the frame onto the burlap. Stick a big heavy book on top of it for a few minutes to be sure it's really stuck well.

5. Now it's time to work on the big butterfly. You'll need two pieces for this- the base piece with the holes in it, and the detailed piece for over top. Take the base piece and coat with the enamel adhesive fluid and drop a little bit of Gilded Rose Gold, Black, and Aged white enamel powders onto it. Remove the excess and heat it up. I heated mine for quite awhile, so that the colors would move around and blend together. The detail piece is super simple- just coat it with the Copper embossing enamel, and once that's dry add a coat of the glossy Glastique. Once both layers are dry, glue together with heavy duty glue.

 6. Add some bling to the framed burlap. I always enjoy swirls! Once the butterfly is completely dry and set (I let mine sit overnight), use the foam tape or pop dot to add it to the upper right hand corner of the ATC. Add a piece of bling on each tip of the butterfly to cover up the holes.

7. Add your little butterflies using heavy duty glue. Do the same with the number.

Good Morning  from the frosty southern US. Teresa here and I'm back with this week's fun creation. 

Being on the design team, I am challenged to see how far the materials can be pushed and I really wanted to see how the Embossing Powders reacted to being applied to smooth metal.

So lets look at some steps for this one.

Gather the supplies
- embossing adhesive
- Mermaid Tears Embossing Powder
- gloss Glastique
- matte Glastique
- fine applicator tip

other supplies
-bracelet blank
- I used heart punches from a favorite paper.
- tiny paint brush
- heat gun

See how smooth and shiny the blanks are.

We have all advised you not to Squeeze the adhesive because the applicator tip will come off -- well this time take it off. 

Dip a tiny paintbrush into the adhesive and paint inside the shapes (yes it does "gather up"). I found that I could manage about three hearts at a time. 

Roll the container of the Mermaid Tears Powder to mix the particles and sprinkle in the shape then heat.

TIP - do not shake any excess off for this project.

I'm sharing this because I do not want you to think this is a panic moment. You will have to repeat the application process. I actually had to do three layers of application.

Simply repaint the adhesive - add powder - and heat.

After three layers I had this lovely - The Mermaid Tears is a beautiful mix of tan, white, silver, and some ocean blue and green bits.

I then used the Matte Glastique as an adhesive to hold my heart paper bits.

Let this dry.

TIP - I keep my fine applicator tips   (yes I have plural) stored in water in the vials they were shipped in. This keeps them from clogging with dried enamels and glastique. I also keep a container of water close by to drop them in until I can clean them out. The enamels and Glastique are soap and water clean up until they are dry.

After the hearts were dry in place, I add a layer of the GLOSS Glastique to each shape. Then I covered the whole thing with a box lid to keep from marring the finish while it all dries.

I left this overnight and this morning I found........

Gorgeous - the Glastique brings out the various colors in the enamel finish.

And I am quite happy to report that, yes, the enamel adhesive and powder do adhere quite well to the smooth metal finish.

Kept Under Lock & Key

 Happy Wednesday everyone! leslierahye here with another necklace project! Globecraft and Piccolo has so many wonderful bezels and charms to alter into wonderful jewelry! I created this piece with the Fancy Square Bezel. It's large size allows for many design options. I created a textured background by building up several layers of Vintage Copper Enamel Powder and while it was still hot I stamped my rubber stamp into the melted enamel. Rubbing the Adhesive Fluid over the rubber before this process keeps the stamp from sticking to the enamel permanently.

Once cooled off I added small flourishes and tiny hearts and a vintage lock to the front to mimic an old lock face like on a trunk. These pieces were previously embossed with Copper Kettle Enamel Powder. They are adhered to the bezel with Glasstique--I hold the pieces into place with clothes pins until they dry. The accents are then coated with glossy Glasstique to add extra shine. Black India Ink was rubbed across the face of the bezel to deepen the color and add a vintage feel to the bezel. The Bezel was edged with a black marker and a layer of Glassitique was smeared across the back to seal the chipboard. Keys were embossed with Vintage Bronze Enamel Powder. Copper jump rings attach the keys to the bezel and a simple leather thong "chain" was constructed to go through the rings.

Frame Card

Hiya all, Tracy here. 

I wanted to show you how beautiful the Piccolo Frames look when used on a card. 

Here is what I have created: 

And here is how I created it.

First of all here is all the items you will need-

Cardstock cut to 10x8" and folded in half for your card blank, and a Piece of watercolour card cut to 4x3"

Tall Grassy Flowers Stamp from Sweet Stamps

Satin Silver 3D Enamel Gel 

Butterfly Flurry Florishes Piccolo Set

Enamel & Embossing Powder Adhesive Fluid

Mermaid Tears Embossing Powder

Aged White Embossing Powder

Paper & Ribbon of your choice

Inkpad for Background & Stamping

Cut your card blank, and also make sure your piece of water colour card fits well behind the frame. 

Using blue Distress ink cover your Watercolour card, you want this too be patchy as represents the Sky. 

A good tip I use is to give a light spray of water over the top of the card, this helps "soften" the distress ink and makes it look more sky like. 

 Take your frame that comes with your Butterfly Flurry Flourishes Piccolo Set and give a nice layer of  Enamel & Embossing Powder Adhesive Fluid

Apply a nice thick layer of  Mermaid Tears Embossing Powder...I love how this picture shows all the beautiful colours in this powder. Tap off the excess & set with your heat tool. 

Take the butterflies from the Butterfly Flurry Flourishes Piccolo Set and emboss with Mermaid Tears Embossing Powder

Take the Tall Grassy Flowers Stamp and stamp up your card. 

I used Green Distress ink for this. 

Once stamped I then used Aged White Embossing Powder on the heads of the flower grass and sprainkled some across the bottom, heat set this from underneath your card. 

Glue your frame and butterflies to your watercolour card. 

Assemble your card using your paper, ribbon & frame.  Here is a closer look at the Flowers & Butterflies. 

Finishing touch is done using the brilliant Satin Silver 3D Enamel Gel , put 3 dots in the corner of your card.
